i need to not be such a nerd.

So browsing through MSN's Slate magazine online, an article about the disintegration of the imperative mood caught my eye...that alone shows me that studying grammar has completely taken over my life. But it was interesting, it talks about how instead of using such strong imperative commands, we have become a society that focuses on "I messages" as suggested by child psychologists. So instead of telling a child to "Do your homework!" we say, "I need you to do your homework", implying that there is some sort of mystical inner desire that must be fulfilled.

Ok, so I'm probably the only one who thought that was interesting...but if you are maybe slightly intrigued by it, here's the link, and I won't tell anyone if you read the whole article and think to yourself, "Man, I wish I could read more stuff like this."
